Introducing The LookBook

The Lookbook showcases a selection of interviews, articles, 360° practice tour videos and testimonials from dentists, specialists and key opinion leaders utilising cutting edge technologies & advanced techniques in dentistry.

Featuring successful case studies of practices from Australia and across the globe, the Lookbook presents a unique opportunity for dentists to gather insights about key elements of modern dentistry and how to integrate those business solutions into their own practice to create the perfect workflow.

Understanding the complexity of managing a dental practice, this new concept displays integrated solutions, enhancing the way that practices operate by combining different aspects of dentistry, such as equipment, consumables, service, management software into one package. The articles are presented from a dentist point of view so doctors can easily relate the content to their own experiences managing their practices.

The case studies below are a quick snapshot of what is to come in the Lookbook; so tune in, get inspired and empower your practice for a future in dentistry.

The Brånemark Center - State Of Art Facility

The Brånemark Center was the first osseointegration training centre in the southern hemisphere and has become an important centre nationally and internationally for the training of general and specialist practitioners in the entire spectrum of implant-based rehabilitation.

After much planning & collaboration, the new state of art facility was inaugurated in January 2018. In order to meet with The Brånemark Center unique practice design, Henry Schein & KaVo in Germany worked closely to develop a customised KaVo 1058 Life Dental chair. The innovative project features equipment solutions enabling easy access to the dental chairs, cart delivery, ceiling mounted light, wall mounted intra oral x-ray & concealed cabinet mounted suction. Furthermore, the facility has a fully dedicated Steri Room which was developed with focus on infection control and fluid workflow. For enhanced patient diagnosis, treatment planning and communication, the centre is equipped with the CBCT technology and intraoral scanner. The article also contains an interview with the equipment specialist, Tom Mathers commenting on the requirements for the Brånemark Center new practice, the challenges and the approach implemented by Henry Schein to deliver a fully customised solution.

Expanding In-House Technologies and Services - Elgin Park Dental

With a focus on dental implants and oral surgery, Dr. Ceri Owen-Roberts used to frequently refer patients out to colleagues for CBCT scans. These are necessary for accurate diagnostics and treatment planning and offer greater visualisation than plain film. However, as the implant business grew, it was clear from the number of referrals being made that the practice would benefit from being able to perform CBCT scanning in-house. The benefits wouldn’t only be financial either.

In some cases, the ability to take a CBCT and get the results immediately, without sending the patient elsewhere first, can be a huge advantage.

Battery Hill Dental – Solving the puzzle for your surgery setup

“Crossing the river by feeling the stones” is a famous saying by former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping that illustrates the process of doing something that is unfamiliar or unclear. It aptly describes the setup process that many dentists, taking the plunge to set up their first surgery, have to go through.

For Dr Luke Heazlewood, Principal Dentist/Founder at Battery Hill Dental, the proverbial ‘stones’ represented unchartered territories in surgery fit out, finance and equipment selection.

“I have never had to fit out or finance a shop before. Those were the grey areas that I needed to wade through,” says the young dentist, relating the difficulties he faced during the initial stages of establishing the community centred suburban clinic in the Sunshine Coast Region in Queensland. That was before Luke came across Surgery Setup Solutions - Webinar Series (formerly Surgery Setup Academy) – that turned out to be a gem of a discovery, attributed both to his online research and contacts he made throughout the years.

Ultrasonic Cleaning: Getting It Right

Ultrasonic Cleaning: Getting It Right
In mid-2023, leading up to and then following the release in December 2023 of the new Australian Standard 5369 on reprocessing reusable medical devices, I had been working on updating the ADA’s Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines for what would become their May 2024 fifth edition. This was part of my role of serving as the editor of those Guidelines, something I have done since 2010. Given that the new standard placed considerable role on local facility risk assessments, I had been undertaking some deep analysis work to identify areas of failure that could occur in a dental practice that was reprocessing instruments on site. From looking at the literature and also from reviewing my own experience auditing dental practices, it became clear that the topic of ultrasonic cleaning was not as well understood by end users as it should be. It is also one where I felt that there was considerable work yet to do.

Why NZ Dental Practices should adopt Piezotome Technology like the Acteon CUBE
In the rapidly advancing field of dental surgery, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal clinical outcomes is a priority for any modern dental practice. One technology that is making a significant impact in achieving these goals is piezotome technology, such as the Acteon CUBE. For NZ dental practices, adopting this innovation could elevate the standard of care across a range of procedures, including bone surgeries, extractions, sinus lifts, crest splitting, and crown extensions.
