Safe Surfaces

In the current climate we know how important it is to ensure clean surfaces, especially those that are frequently contaminated.

Cleaning with a neutral detergent removes bioburden from surfaces, it also assists with breaking down proteins and has better cleaning capabilities than alcohol for example. Using something like an alcohol wipe alone will harden proteins and If you’ve ever used alcohol on blood you will know how blood can harden and become very difficult to remove.

When surfaces are exposed to say blood splatter using a neutral detergent followed by a disinfectant is best practice. Using a disinfectant wipe in a 2 step approach means you firstly clean the area by removing the blood and then use a second disinfectant wipe allowing the surface to dry will ensure the any viruses or multi-resistant organisms on the surface are killed in the specified time the wipe manufacturer has advised.

When using products to clean medical devices such as dental chairs It’s important to ensure you follow the guidance from the manufacture of the medical device to ensure compatibility.

Areas in the practice that also become soiled frequently are doors handles, waiting room chairs/tables, front counter, eftpos machines and public bathrooms. Whilst you may not clean after every touch you may want to consider a cleaning schedule a couple of times per day.

Whilst cleaning surfaces is important to ensure residue does not build up. Therefore, we would recommend that at the end of the day using a microfibre cloth that is rung out from warm water to wipe off the days product build up. This will ensure surfaces are clean/dry and free from residue. Surfaces will look newer for longer.
